Deliciously Soft Flatbread

These delicious, homemade flatbreads are super easy to make and taste so much better than the ones you get in the supermarket. Great for dips, curries, gyros or sandwiches. They can be easily be frozen and reheated so why not make a big batch and stick some in your freezer for when you next need them. Making your own bread is also a great way to cut down on single use plastic 👌.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 150ml warm water
  • 120ml warm milk (I use oat milk)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1tsp salt
  • 400g bread flour

METHOD

In a large bowl mix yeast, sugar, water, milk, oil, salt and half of the bread flour until well combined.

Gradually add in the remaining flour until a soft dough is formed. It will pull away from the sides to from a ball but still be soft to touch. You may not need all the flour so gauge it as you go. Knead for 4-5 mins until soft and smooth.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover, let it rise until doubled in size (usually about 1 hour).

Divide into 6 pieces and roll into balls. Place on a board and cover and rest for 10-15 mins to help the gluten relax.

Roll out one at a time to about 1/8 inch thick.

Heat a heavy bottomed pan or griddle to a medium heat. Cook the flatbread for 1-2 mins on each side until lightly browned.

Can be easily frozen and reheated.
